A young woman ready to marry must have an attitude of Submission and Respect.
You must first submit to all mighty God. Your life and life choices must be informed by the precepts of God. You must have a surrendered life. In your everyday speech it must be evident that you love God and he is your friend. There two questions you must be able to answer.
1. What is God challenging with now? In your Christian life what are some of the challenges you are trying to overcome.
2. What is God speaking to you about or inspiring you to do for him.
She must be ready to offend others to be right with God.
Though the Bible talks about Submission and Respect in the context of marriage, I believe that for many women it does not come to them naturally so it will be better to learn to submit and respect before the ‘green light’ is on for marriage.
A young woman must learn to submit to and respect men before marriage, so that in marriage submission will not be a big deal for you. learn to submit to men in your life; men like your father, your brothers and uncles is key. You must not be seen to be lording over men or being authoritative when it comes to your interactions and relations with men. You must act humbly and respectful towards men.
This does not mean that you can not put your opinions across but you must learn to put your opinions across in a submissive and respectful manner at all times. It does not also mean that you cannot be yourself, rather in your quest to be yourself you must intentionally portray a sense of decorum. I love to meet beautiful girls who are pleasant and polite. It’s hard to find young women like that these days.
You drive men away when they seem to think that you are vocal and authoritative.
Eph. 5:33b “and the wife must respect her husband”.
1 Tim. 2:11 ” A woman should learn in quietness and full submission”.
A young woman should be a homemaker
A self-controlled person builds a home; some people use the word “temperate” for self control which means showing moderation or self restraint. I also like Self restraint; someone who is able to control herself. A young woman must learn to control herself; control her speech, her actions and reactions and not be all over the place when she’s angry or feels unfairly treated.
You must be seen and known to be calm and not wild. It drives men away.
It does not mean be foolish but you must be wise in your decisions, actions and reactions.
She must be Pure; a very rare word in the world today. lately many people do not see the need to be described or seen as pure. But its important that a young woman keeps herself for her husband.
You must not be known to be the girlfriend of many guys. Staying out very late in the night and hanging out at night clubs (one of my male friends told me once that “guys don’t take their potential wives to a night club”), sleeping over in a mans house; a pure person cannot do that. You must seek to keep yourself pure and hold that purity in high esteem. You must respect yourself physically.
A young woman must be busy at home; being busy at home is when you know how to do house chores. You can clean and cook and you do it with joy. Nowadays its difficult to find a young lady who enjoys to cook and clean. You might either find one who cleans and not cook or vice versa although mostly you may not find a person who loves to do both. You must be ready to learn to clean and cook before the “green light is on” for the marriage. You cannot make your home a fast food joint. You cannot wait till you are married then try to do it and you will keep failing at all your attempts. Your newly married husband will be having stomach upsets all the time! Cooking is mostly done by women though men can or must help sometimes. At least cleaning can be a shared responsibility but when I enter a home and its not clean I hardly blame the man its always the woman’s fault.
Titus 2:5 “ to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God”.
Proverbs 31:15 & 17
She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
Finally, these attributes may not be your native character but the truth is you can never fully practice and even understand all this before marriage but you must know them and be ready to practice it. You must acquire these attributes intentionally and be conscious of practising before the “green light” is on.
