Its only right to assume that a right person will be asking this question. How can you be looking for a right person if you are not a right person yourself.
So for this question you need to be introspective.
Look within yourself and find out if you are the right person for the one you are looking for.
Are you a matured Christian? Christian maturity isn’t how long you have been a Christian. But how is your life a mirror to the world around you; your home, your work place and among your friends. How are you living your life intentionally to know God more and to understand His word. How is the word of God informing your daily decisions and choices.
Another question you need to ask yourself; do I know who I Am?
Knowing who you are means, understanding yourself in the eyes of your likes and dislikes, your temperament, your strengths and weaknesses and your purpose( either you are seeking God’s face earnestly to know it or you have found it already)
For a man the Bible says “God made him a help mate” which means that by the time you are looking for the right person you should know what your purpose is and that will determine the helper or help mate you choose.
What’s your blood group and sickling status? It is as important as asking yourself am a murderer or not. Seek counsel from Medical officers on blood group compatibility and sickling so that you don’t bring harm and trouble to your life together in the future.
How have you prepared yourself for marriage?
How many marriage, relationship or family books have you read. Have you attended seminars on relationships and preparing for marriage. All in the quest to equip yourself for the marriage journey. You cannot go on a journey and not know how to get to your destination. The bible says who decides to build a house and does not count the cost before he or she starts or who decides to go to war and does not count the cost. You must be ready and prepared for battle before you get to the battle field. When you start and you are not able to finish you will be ridiculed. Luke 14:28-32
How are your relationships in life?
How is your relationship with your parents like, What is the relationship with your siblings like, how about your friends? Are you able to hold relationships without breaking away for no serious reason. Do you respect your parents and siblings or you just love under their roof. It’s important to know that for a woman showing respect should be a part of you especially your Dad and brothers for the Bible says wives must respect and submit. Respect and submission might not be your primary character but you should be ready to learn and willing to exhibit it. How do you treat your male friends. For a man love and care should be your nature for the Bible says that husbands must love and lay their lives down. Do you love and care for your parents and siblings especially your Mum and sisters. Love and care might not be your primary nature as well but are you willing to begin to learn and exhibit it. How do you treat your female friends. Eph.5:21-33
Lastly, the best person to consider for marriage is a good friend. It’s easier when you know the person to some extent and you know you can answer most of the questions you have answered above about yourself for that person you are seeking as a partner for life.
Please note
But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.
